In 2018 the city of Münster announced a plan to cut down two tall trees next to an important street in the city. They claimed that this was necessary to create a temporary alternative road due to a construction site. Many citizens were not pleased with this decision and demanded an opportunity to voice their opinions and discuss alternative solutions. To organize a protest and promote their petition to preserve the plants they founded an iniative called „Platanenpower“.

Although the initial plans for felling the two plane trees went through, the mayor of Münster met with members of Platanenpower and offered to consult them on future decisions regarding tree fellings in the area. Since then, Platanenpower continues to stay strong in the struggle for sustainability and greenery in the city. We met with Doro and Winny, two of the members who were able to give us some insights about their work.
